CHEETAH WINES
Country: South Africa Region: Stellenbosch

Chewbaaka CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2003

Like the noble and dignified Chewbaaka, the Cabernet is the ambassador of wines with its subtle layers of blackcurrant flavors, evolving into velvety vanilla undertones with firm lingering tannins.

CHEWBAAKA “chew-bah-caw” - The Cheetah Conservation Fund’s Ambassador Cheetah. He was rescued as a cub and raised by Dr. Laurie Marker.

Suggested food: To be enjoyed with venison, lamb stew, meat pastas or rare beef.

d'Artagnan Shiraz d' Artagnan SHIRAZ 2003

D'Artagnan, while being shy, has another side to him, like this gorgeous Shiraz. Delicately berried on the nose and palate with a little spice flavor to keep good balance in acidity and soft tannins.

D’Artagnan is one of three brothers who were the only survivors of their family. They are inseparable & very shy. Named after the three brave Musketeers, d’Artagnan is the clown prince of the three.

Suggested food: A good accompaniment to barbeued meat, light red meat dishes or ostrich, oxtail and venison.

Kanini Pinot Noir Kanini PINOT NOIR 2003

KANINI came to the Cheetah Conservation Fund in February 2006. Because of her tiny size, she was named Kanini meaning “the little one.” Today she is growing healthy and happy.

The wine is very much like Kanini, “the little one.” An elegant wine with an up-front fruity nose and palate, full of strawberry and raspberry flavors, balanced by a firm acidity and gentle wooding.

Amani Chardonnay Amani CHARDONNAY 2005

AMANI means “Peace” in Swahili Found by a farmer in Namibia just east of Windhoek when she was one year old. Amani was taken to live at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in June 2006.

Fresh, lemony aromas and flavors combine with a delicate smokiness for a well-balanced Chardonnay with a soft finish. Similar to Amani's peaceful nature.

The Cheetah wines series was an idea developed in conjunction with the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) to help raise money for the fund. To ensure the programs continued success, the Cape of Good Hope Wine Co. selected quality boutique style South African wines from the Hoopenburg Vineyard in Stellenbosch. The Cheetah that were selected for each of the wines were selected from the cheetah still in CCF’s care and whose characteristics and traits matched the style of each of the wines.

This will be an ongoing program with the labels updated as the cheetah grow up & the vintages change. Other varietals featuring other cheetah will be added as the program progresses.

These are the first release of the wines dedicated to support the survival of the cheetah.

The cheetah, the fastest land animal on earth, will become extinct in the wild within the next 20 years, if left alone! Cheetah Conservation Fund's reach and vision is worldwide with conservation programs in Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia and Algeria.
